There are two options to write your own SWMS document:
- Download a free template from Worksafe
- Purchase a job specific template
While Worksafe provides free SWMS templates, you’re expected to make them job-specific by listing each task, identify all the risks associated with each task, and explain the control measures to minimise the risks before having workers sign and date each item.
If you’d prefer to leave the paperwork to someone else, consider purchasing a job specific SWMS document where the common tasks, its hazards, and control measures filled out so all you have to do is complete the safety assessment (usually a matrix). Additionally you will need to remove any tasks, risks and safety measures that aren’t applicable to your job to customise it – it’s much easier to do it this way than rewriting one from scratch.
