WORK ACTIVITIES

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.Using Mobile Scaffold

Hazards Present

  • Falls from scaffold
  • Falls due to uneven ground or working adjacent to live edges
  • Electrocution: Working near live electrical services

Risk Control Measures

  • The plan bracing will be incorporated at the base of the scaffold to prevent distortion. Scaffold not to be moved whilst any person is on the scaffold work platform. The wheels of the scaffold should be locked or chocked against any possible movement before using the scaffold, and should be left as such when not in use. Do not relocate the scaffold unless all items have been secured against falling.
  • Scaffold to be regularly inspected to ensure that equipment or material cannot be dislodged from the platform.
  • Do not bridge platforms between adjacent scaffolds. All workers to remain inside scaffold bay.
  • Mobile scaffolds should be used only on a hard, flat surface. On soil, use steel channels or similar to provide a stable surface. For castors with no height-adjustment, the surface must also be level. Do not locate a mobile scaffold closer than 1 metre to any slab edge, penetration or other step down, unless a positive means to prevent it crossing that point, such as a fixed fence, rail or suitably high upturn, is in place.
  • The scaffold must be kept clear of live electrical powerlines. The minimum safe distance is 4.6m horizontally and 5m vertically. The 5m clearance is from the top of the scaffold handrail. Only if written permission is obtained from the power supply company and this is reflected in the SWMS, is encroachment on this NO GO ZONE allowed.
