Risk Control Measures

  • Select the operation area that is suitable for the work
  • Install the protection tent or other equipment to protect the welding zone against rain, sunshine or bad weather (if required)
  • Check the machine is functioning
  • Any missing or damaged parts to be repaired or replaced before commencement of welding operation
  • Ensure all electrical equipment is in good condition prior to use, including power switches, terminals, connections, cables and insulation
  • Inspect equipment as per manufacturers’ instructions.

Check:

  • Machine positioned on stable, flat area
  • Heating plate is clean and free of defects
  • End facing blades are undamaged and sharpened/replaced where required
  • Pressure gauges, valves etc. are present and in worker order
  • No fluid leaks/pressure drops

Heater:

  • Always use gloves when handling the hot plate
  • Use the extension cord that has a high melting point outer sheath, (this will delay melting effects if it comes in contact with the hot plate)
  • Never use a standard appliance cord with low melting point PVC sheath
  • Stand the hot plate so that the temperature controller handle is not vertically above the hot plate (this will direct the cord away from the hot surface keeping the controller relatively cool
  • Do not touch pipe ends
  • Note: Keep body parts clear of heating plate
  • Use only a clean non-synthetic cloth such as a cotton cloth to clean the heater plates
