Hazards Present

  • Air under pressure can cause injury.
  • Damage to hearing from constant noise.
  • Soft tissue damage to hands from prolonged vibrations.
  • Electrocution from faulty equipment, cutting power cables or from operating in wet areas.
  • Air tools are not intended for use in explosive atmospheres and are not insulated for contact with electric power sources.

Risk Control Measures

  • Make sure the end is held securely when blowing out a hose or airline. An unsecured end could whip and cause injury
  • Direct the exhaust air away from yourself and others in the work area
  • Check for damaged or loose hoses and fittings before using an air tool, and replace if necessary
  • Disconnect the tool from the air supply when not in use or before changing accessories, setting the torque, or when making repairs
  • When universal twist couplings are used, lock pins must be installed to prevent accidental hose disconnection
  • Wear impact resistant eye and face protection when involved with or near the operation or repair of air tools
  • Use the shortest length of hose possible between the compressor and tool to avoid undue pressure drop through the hose
  • Isolate the noise from workers or wear hearing protection
  • Make sure the is not pointed at yourself or anyone else
  • Make sure you the you do not exceed rated air pressure to increase the output of the tool
